How long should I stay in pre-season?

This is a question we get asked often.

In certain situations, athletes are afraid and have the idea that if they stop during pre-season training, it will cause them to lose performance.

This will naturally happen, but it’s a necessary and controlled process that will be reflected in increased performance and output in the following season.

If a professional cyclist takes about 2 to 3 weeks off, their life consists of training and resting. An amateur athlete will need to rest more often because, in addition to the strain of training, they also accumulate the strain of work, making it impossible to rest as much in their daily routine, which ultimately affects the season.

With the increased workload throughout the season, the body accumulates physical and psychological wear and tear.

To maintain a healthy balance between cycling, work, and personal life, you should take partial rest periods throughout the year. And at the end of the season, you should take a longer break. To allow your body to recover from the wear and tear accumulating throughout the season.

Just as important as the physical aspect is the psychological one. The pre-season rest will allow you to do a sort of “reset”… you’ll get nostalgic, more “motivated” and eager to ride your bike.

The downtime is very relative; it could be 2, 3, or even 4 weeks.

This rest period will be determined by the partial breaks you take throughout the season, your workload and personal lifestyle, as well as the type of activity you practice, whether leisure, competition or high performance.

This is a necessary and healthy process. So that you can start a new season, rested both physically and psychologically, and extremely motivated!

Devo aguardar o tempo de recuperação que o meu GPS indica?

It’s definitely happened to you before, at the end of some workouts, your GPS indicating a very long recovery time!
This raises the question of whether you should wait for this recovery period before resuming physical activity.

Nowadays, most GPS devices have the option to assign a recovery time through calculations.
Depending on the training performed or the GPS device, this recovery time estimate is sometimes given in hours, or in some cases, even in days. This is especially true when you already have a workout scheduled for the following day. So the question is, should we wait this number of hours or days before we can resume physical activity again?

First, you need to understand how recovery time prediction is calculated.
This recovery time is calculated by an algorithm, based on several physiological studies. The algorithm predicts your recovery time, taking into account your assigned training zones, the intensity and duration of the workout, as well as your history recorded on that GPS.
The truth is that this calculation is only a speculation of your total recovery time, that is, until you are fully recovered from that training session, based on the point mentioned above.

Answering the question above… you don’t need to wait that many hours or days to resume physical activity; you can resume the next day. Always keep in mind the training program planned by your physical trainer.

How to manage your indoor trainer training?

We’re back to training on the rollers, and to help you manage your training on the rollers, Combativo is giving you some tips to keep in mind.

The duration of indoor cycling should not be too long for several reasons, the main ones being:
– Dehydration;
– Physical and mental exhaustion;
– Pressure on the perineum and possible injuries.

To be able to train in a healthy and sustainable way, you should take the following precautions:

– Do not extend your training on the rollers for a period longer than 1 hour and 30 minutes;

– You should use a fan that circulates the air indirectly, so that the place where you will be exercising does not become stuffy;

-During all training sessions, in addition to water, you should also consume mineral salts to help replenish them;

– You should not exceed the recommended time, because in the short to medium term, and especially for those who train regularly, it will cause physical wear and tear and saturation of the bicycle and the trainer;

– Training on a roller typically “forces” an even more static position than usual; if the athlete remains seated for an extended period of time, this can cause significant discomfort in the perineal region. In men in particular, this can result in inflammatory processes in the prostate.

To avoid these significant discomforts and potential injuries, this is another reason why you shouldn’t extend your training time much beyond 1 hour and 30 minutes. In addition, you should take care to constantly stand up from the saddle and pedal for a few moments standing up, so that you can relieve pressure in the perineal area.

Are you having trouble training with this cold weather?

This cold wave that has swept across the country from north to south has greatly affected the daily lives of all practitioners of the sport.

Here are some tips for training comfortably in the cold.

The first rule, of course, is to wear appropriate clothing before going out. But that alone is not enough, because the impact of a “cold” body on the outside temperature is very significant.

Before going outside and during your workout, you should take the following precautions:

  • Use a warming cream, especially on the knees and legs;
  • You put on the pants, and clothes suitable for the torso, so that you can do rolls;
  • It takes about 20 minutes of rolling;
  • Wear appropriate clothing so that you are suitable for going out in public;
  • To stay hydrated during a workout, instead of using water or mineral salts, use hot tea; it will help maintain your body temperature.

If you follow these simple tips, you’ll see that even though it’s cold, you’ll definitely be able to enjoy your bike!
